While In general It Is proposed that appointees would be working on one of the above research projects, applicants with some special interest would be permitted to choose their own project provided it was consistent with the general research aims of the Unit. The Research Unit Is an integral part of the University and appointments are made at grades and salaries comparable to academic staff and with similar opportunities for promotion Research Economists and Senior Research Economists are normally permanent positions in the salary range £l3OO-£2BOO. Appointments as Assistant Research Economists are normally made for a two year term (with the possibility of subsequent permanency), at a commencing salary in the range £llOO-£l2OO. These salary scales will be raised in line with any adjustments made to University salaries. The initial level of appointment would depend on experience and qualifications which, in general, should include a degree In Economics, Agricultural Economics, Commerce or Accountancy. A Diploma in Valuation and Farm Management could be a suitable qualification tor seme appointments. Previous experience or training in agriculture Is not essential in all instances.
