PRESERVING BEAUTY
Public Works Aim The continued growth of public interest in the conservation of natural beauty and in the final appearance of major construction projects was referred to by the Minister of Works. Mr Allen, in the Ministry of Works Statement presented to the House of Representatives. “It has been my aim to match this interest with wellplanned and well-executed works,” continued Mr Allen. “Unfortunately during construction there is little that can be done to avoid the ugliness of construction work." The best the department could do was to inform the people about works and progress and to enlist their interest and patience. While they were better informed now than ever before, he had arranged with the department to pay constant attention to still better relations with the public.
