BRIGADIER H. C. MURGATROYD
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 14. Brigadier Harold Clifford Murgatroyd, died suddenly in Auckland yesterday, aged 69. He was born in Patea, but left with his family for England in 1911. He returned to New Zealand to farm in Otorohanga in 1957. He served in France in the First World War and was awarded the Military Cross and French Croix de Guerre. He was in the Territorial Army after the war and became a brigadier in 1939. He commanded the anti-aircraft defences of South-east London in the Second World War and later the defences of Southampton. He was an aide-de-camp to King George VI in 1943 and later to the Queen.
