W’WORTHS EXPANDS
Dept. Store Trading (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 14. Woolworths has decided to develop further into full-scale department store operations. Some of its stores will now offer a full range of furniture, floor coverings and major electrical appliances. “Credit facilities are also being extended to cater for this class of purchase,” the chairman, Sir Theo Kelly, said. Woolworths is Australia’s leading chain store retailer (on a sales basis), with a turnover of 314 m dollars last year, and has concentrated on selling on a cash basis.
