ANORAKS—NOW WINTER SHIRTS

A new name in winter fashion in New Zealand is Anorak. Worn for decades by the peoples of the Scandinavian regions, Anoraks are now being made in the North Island.

In bold, jagged designs, the fabric originally imported from the United Kingdom, brings touches of Mexico, Red Indians and the ruggedness of the Eskimo.

Anoraks are shirts, warm woolly garments particularly suited to New Zealand’s sport - mindedness. They feature pockets, shirt collars and buttoned sleeves.

Those that have already been put on the local market havfe been quickly snapped up by retailers.

“Even though the Anoraks are selling late in season for winter, almost every retailer we have shown the garments to has snapped up a dozen or more for selling,” said the makers’ sales manager.

They are now beginning to sell the garments to retailers for next year’s sales. “There will be six designs for next year in five colour ways which will give 30 combinations,” said the sales manager. “There is a foil range of sizes in men’s and women’s.”

He describes the garments as something equivalent to a ski shirt, and believes that the Anorak will make a big impression on the public.
