£l5OO FOR LEPERS

Gift To Aid Scholarship Two special gifts, one of £5OO and another of £lOOO, were referred to at a recent meeting of the executive of the Lepers* Trust Board in Christchurch. The £5OO gift, from Lady N. Dawson, of Dunedin, was tn aid of the fund to establish Twomey medical scholarships. This scheme, named after the founder of the Lepers’ Trust Board, exists to train native scholars from the Solomons and the New Hebrides as doctors so that, after qualifying from the Fiji School of Medicine, they may go back to help their own people. The gift of £lOOO was from Mr T. Dunn, aged 93, of Palmerston North. It is for general purposes. Appreciation of these gifts was expressed by the secretary of the board (Mr D. Douglas). He said that both Lady Dawson and Mr Dunn had been regular annual contributors to the Leper Man Appeal for many years.

Resignation.—Sister J. Alexander, deaconess of St. Giles’s Presbyterian Church for the last six years, will resign at the end of August. Her resignation was received at the monthly meeting of the Presbytery of Christchurch.
