Motorists driving into Auck-{ land across the harbour' bridge this morning noticed a home-made Jap- j anese flag flying from the; Northcote Point flagstaff. It is believed to have been hoisted during the night. The bridge authority announced yesterday that the tender for extensions to the bridge had been, let to a Japanese contractor.
The general manager of the authority, Mr O. H. Brannigan, declined to comment on the authority’s attitude to the incident The flag was removed later this morning by staff of the Northcote Borough Council. A spokesman for the council) said the flag was available for reclaiming. Someone had put a lot of work into making it, and it would get tossed out or lost in some corner if it was not claimed.
