SWIMMER OMITTED
Selectors Criticised (NZ. Press Association' DUNEDIN. The failure of the New Zealand swimming selectors (Messrs A J. Donaldson and R. Shakespeare) to support the reconsideration of I. Johnstone’s case to be added to the Empire Games team was strongly criticised yesterday by the president of the Ota co Swimming Centre (Mr D. R. Pickard). I Mr Donaldson announced in i Christchurch on Tuesday | evening that Johnstone's case .for inclusion In the Empire Games team for Jamaica would definitely not be reopened. Mr Pickard said: “This, coming from men who are supposed to be pushing for the younger competitors, is almost unbelievable. “I’m sure Otago swimming officials and supporters will have little confidence in the chairman of the committee (Mr Donaldson) after his handling of the whole case. “I would also like to express my sympathy to Johnstone but feel sure his future performances will confirm our confidence in him as New Zealand’s most promising prospect for the 1968 Olympics.”
