TWO ROOF FIRES

The ceiling of a secondstorey room in a wooden house at 202 Worcester street, was damaged after it caught alight yesterday afternoon from a gas water heater which had been left on. Two engines from Headquarters went to the fire when a call was received at 3.35 p.m. Some roof sarking was also damaged. The house is owned by Mr J. L. Thornton, of 68 Beach road, Kaikoura. A fire which started in a sawdust hopper caused slight damage to the roof of M. Wilson and Company's factory at 320 a Lincoln road about 3 p.m. yesterday. The fire was put out by two engines from Headquarters and Sydenham. One engine from Sydenham put out a small rubbish fire on a vacant section at the corner of Rollesby and Rydal streets at 6.13 a.m. The owner of the section is Mr B A. Bryson, of 259 River road.
