FIRE HAZARD SEEN

Position Of Gas Heaters There did not appear to be any regulation or by-law governing the position of gas heaters, Mr T. H. Boyle said at a meeting of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board last evening. There are gas heaters up against ceilings and walls, which I have seen discoloured by the heat, he said. “We have potential fire hazards all round the city.” Mr T. F. Perkin said he had seen a department store with a gas heater surrounded by a curtain. A complaint to the brigade had resulted in prompt action. “I have been staggered that such things are allowed to go on,” said Mr N. G. Pickering. "We should raise our voices in protest against all fire hazards and see that local bodies don’t allow them to continue.”

The board agreed to draw the attention of local bodies to the dangers of badly positioned radiant gas heaters.
