Harrison Appeal
Contributions to the John Harrison Memorial Fund are now more than £13,832. Th; national appeal will close on Saturday. Yesterday “The Press” received £123, making £5536 since the appeal opened on June 27.
One of the trustees received £47 12s in yesterday’s mail, which included one anonymous gift of £lO. Other donations received yesterday included £5O from M. O’Brien and Company, £4O from the staff of Hay's, Ltd., and £25 from the staff of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Ltd. Yesterday “The Press” received donations which included £44 from the Canterbury Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association, £25 from the Christchurch College Students’ Association, £2O from Mr and Mrs G. A. McVicar, and 10 gns. from the staff and patrons of the Tavern bar, United Service Hotel. Nelson’s Home Saved.— Admiral Lord Nelson’s London home has been saved from demolition and will be turned into a museum. It stands next to a house in Albany street, Deptford, once occupied by Lady Emma Hamilton, while she was Lord Nelson's mistress. This will also become part of the museum.—(Reuter.)
