Behaviour In The Cathedral
Sir, —On a recent visit to the Christchurch Cathedral I was shocked by the behaviour of two teen-age youths' who insisted on irreverent behaviour, such as lounging on the pulpit and pews, meddling with ornamental items of the church, and also disturbing people wishing to use the Cathedral as a house of prayer. I think this type of behaviour should be seen to.— Yours, etc., DISGUSTED. July 11, 1966. [The Dean (the Very Rev. W. A. Pyatt) replied: “I am sorry that ‘Disgusted’ has not sought an opportunity to discuss this with one of the Cathedral staff or myself. Perhaps she could help. It is true that occasionally some folk do not know how to behave themselves in the Cathedral. They are all, however, sons and daughters of God and have a right to be in that place. Their behaviour can best be ‘seen to’ by the charity, warmth, and understanding of the Christians that they meet there.”]
