CHURCHES TO UNITE
Approved At Swansea
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SWANSEA (Wales). July 12.
Representatives of more than three million Congregationalists voted unanimously at Swansea yesterday to unite with 10 million Presbyterians in a new World Alliance of Reformed Churches. The vote at the 10th assembly of the International Congregation Council came after five days of talks between 250 delegates representing 20 nations.
Discussions on union between the council and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches began in 1958. Today’s decision calls for final ratification of the union agreement in 1968, after the constituent churches of the two bodies have given their assent. A uniting council will be held in 1970 to approve the constitution.
