HARD FROST AGAIN

Upper Hutt Has 16.1 Degrees

For the second successive morning a frost of 12 degrees was recorded at Harewood yesterday. Eleven degrees was recorded at the Botanic Gardens.

Rangiora had its hardest frost of the year, 14 degrees being recorded by Mr G. C. Beattie. Yesterday’s frost came after one of 12.5 degrees on Monday morning, and was followed by sunny conditions with a cool southerly wind. Yesterday’s frost in Ashburton was 13.7 degrees. A frost of 15.7 degrees the third heaviest this year—was recorded on Monday. Upper Hutt yesterday morning registered 16.1 degrees of frost, says the Press Association. In Wellington, Kelburn had three degrees and Wellington Airport five degrees.

Other heavy frosts recorded in New Zealand yesterday morning were: New Plymouth (12 degrees), Nelson (10 degrees), Lake Te Anau (14 degrees), and Timaru (12 degrees). In Christchurch yesterday the temperature had risen to 50 degrees at noon, and a maximum of 53 degrees was recorded soon after 2 p.m. After a calm morning, a light west - north • westerly wind sprang up in the afternoon. The sky was partly cloudy for most of the day. At 4.30 p.m. the temperature on the Government Life building showed 55 degrees.
