Copper Cable With new copper power cable quoted at £6OO a ton, and even scrap copper wire bringing £450 a ton, investigations were being made into the use of solid aluminium cable for low-tension underground wiring, the engineermanager (Mr S. E. Slatter) told the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board yesterday. This could mean a big saving. The life of aluminium was comparable to that of copper, he said. Car Washes “Professional-type" car washes and bags of pine cones delivered to one’s door will be services offered on Saturday by a Christchurch church as part of the “Operation 21” project Organised by the combined youth fellowship and Bible class of the Durham Street Methodist Church, car washes will be given for 5s each, and bags of pine cones delivered for 7s 6d. Psychology Used-car dealers in Australia offer vehicles for sale in pounds, and pay for cars they buy in dollars, taking advantage of the psychology implied by double the number of dollars to a pound, the secretary-manager (Mr V. G. Mason) told the Central Can terbury Electric Power Board yesterday, when reporting on his trip to Australia to study the change to decimal coinage.
