SMITHFIELD SHOW
N.Z. Lamb To Be Entered New Zealand frozen lamb will be entered in a Commonwealth competition at the Royal Smithfield Show at Earls Court, London, in December this year. A frozen lamb carcase competition was introduced for the first time at the show last year. The competition, however, is confined to member societies of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth. The New Zealand society was not then a member. Now that the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand has become affiliated to the Commonwealth society, New Zealand lamb will be eligible for the competition. All arrangements for the entry of the lamb will be made by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board on behalf of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. Selection of entries will be made from new season’s early killings to ensure the arrival of the lamb in Britain in time for the competition. The Meat Board points out that the date of the competition will restrict the number of lambs which could be considered for selection in New Zealand. However, the board expects to be able to select lambs that will be up to the best New Zealand standard. New Zealand will have an entry of three carcases in each of two sections. One section is for frozen lamb of a dressed weight 281 b and under, and the other for 291 b to 361 b lamb.
