SIX-DAY TOUR
Aust. Entries Early Although they do not close until late September, six entries have already been received for the Dulux six-day cycling tour of the North Island. Five of these are from Australians: M. Powell (Victoria), who is a perennial entrant and has been well-placed; B. Cain. W. Johnston, and D. George, all of Victoria, and T. Savimaki (Queensland). The other entrant is the West Coast-North Island and former Canterbury rider, D. J. Stowell. In the latest newsletter of the classic, the organiser (Mr A A. Pennington, of Wellington) says that to reward riders who complete every stage, there will be prizes in the general classification section to the fourteenth place, and there will be trophies in each of the King of the Mountains and handicap sections. As well, sashes will be given to the winner of each stage, the King of the Mountains and handicap sections, and the first three in the general classification.
Riders must finish all stages to qualify for any of the final prizes, and to qualify for sprint or hill climb trophies must finish the particular stage. Any rider withdrawing from any stage will not be permitted to continue unless he can give the appeal committee genuine reasons for not finishing.
