D. HARTILL WINNER

S.L Cycling Championship

Two young Greymouth riders having their first season of open competition and the promising Hornby junior, C. D. Yaxley, provided the highlight* of the South Island professional 23-mlie cycling championship at the week-end. Conditions were nearly per. feet on the course from Ikamatua to Dobson, although there was a light southerly head-wind for most of the Journey.

The winner was D. Hartlli, a younger brother of last year's New Zealand junior 23-mlie champion, T. Hartlli, who is at present in Australia. The younger Hartlli rod* very steadily with J. Evans from the 7)mln mark.

Yaxley took both the senior and junior titles in a spirited finish with his club-mate, F. Hooper. Results:—

South Island 25-mila Championship.—D. Hartlli (Greymouth), 7imtn, 1; J. Evans (Greymouth), 7imln, 2; M. Cameron (Nelson), Simin, 3; I. Coe (Tlmaru), 2min, 4; J. Blackman (Hornby), 3)min, 5.
