CLOSURE BY B.M.C.

Sea Strike Effect

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY, July. 11. The British Motor Corporation (Australia) Pty. Ltd., announced today it would close its Sydney plant between August 26 and September 12 because it was short of British components for its cars, after the shipping strike. However, the 2500 employees in the production plant would be given the opportunity to take two weeks’ absence on holiday pay during the period, and another week at Christmas, as an alternative to being stood down without pay. Company officials said the closure was not likely to affect the number of new Morris Minis or Morris 1100 s o.i the market, as these models had the highest Australian content. They said, however, that the Morris 1800 might be hard to obtain for about a month after the plant reopened.
