Awards To Craftsmen
Six overseas awards will be made this year to provide opportunities for young New Zealand craftsmen, aged between 21 and 2, in building construction; electrical (industrial electronics); boilermaking (structural steel): plumbing; photo process; and fitting, turning and machining (with emphasis on production engineering).
Applications are invited from men who have, or are about to complete, apprenticeships or other recognised training in any of the above trades. Winners of awards will travel overseas to gain knowledge, experience and technical education in leading factories and technical institutions. Training and employment is arranged with overseas firms and salaries will be paid. The Craftsman Training Foundation is sponsoring and administering the scheme. The foundation was formed by Rotary clubs and its awards are financed by industry, commerce, banks, Rotary clubs and Air New Zealand.
Last year eight awards were made. Three of the winners are working in Britain and the other five in Australia. Winners spend three years overseas and undertake to return to their industry in New Zealand for a similar period. Applications will close on July 31. They may be sent to the secretary. Craftsman Training Foundation, P.O. Box 28-090, Auckland, 5.E.2.
