Anderton) had to change ground as a result, but that Anderton < was not forced to stop using the whip at any stage. -In the circumstances no "targe against Andrews was warranted. but he was shown the film and informed that he must make greater effort* to keep his mount straight. Shortly before the junction of the course proper Equality <D. A. Peake) had to be checked when the field ahead and outside him became too bunched, but after Equality was In the clear, and although ridden with the whip, he was unable to come on.
In the Whyte Handicap. Gus (W. D. Skelton) was never well placed and finished near the rear. The horse was under pressure at the half-mile, but was unable to improve. Skelton said that Gus raced erratically, as he has done in some of hi* previous racing, and in his opinion Was upset by the moisture from the track coming back at him, a factor which the horse had not previously encountered. (ju* waa examined by tho elub veterinary surgeon before the race and w*e found to be normal. Wirt (G. L. Willetts) failed to show up and also finished near the rear. Willetts said he pulled the whip at the half-mile, but that Wirl was simply unable to

respond tn the iocs! and h<a-. ? ground. A. Jenkins and J. T. Walker respective trainers of That's it and Carnbeg. were charged with the wrongful acceptance of the horses in the race. After hearing the explanations the committee imposed a fine of £23 in both cases.
