Kaiapoi Surprises Again
KAIAPOI 18: Barry Williams and J. Sellers, tries; J. Bond, six goals. LINWOOD IT: W. Noonan, J. Seales and M. Morgan, tries; W. Godfrey, four goals.
Starting off with the seme enthusiasm as when it beat Linwood surprisingly in the first round, Kaiapoi kept up its efforts throughout the game to beat Linwood for the second time In the championship series. Although the winner scored only two tries to Linwood’s three there was real merit in its victory. The players were cajoled and threatened by the captain-coach. Bond, whose efforts enable the team to keep up a pressure on Linwood. Linwood's backs were hard to contain once they were able to swing the ball out to the three-quarters, where E. Kereopa was the real danger to Kaiapoi with his powerful runs. Kaiapoi, too, had its danger men, and one who impressed again with his play was the Canterbury representative. Barry Williams. The forward play was hard, with honours being fairly even. Linwood's hooker, W. Noonan, emerged with a slight advantage over the veteran, Bond. As well as leading and playing well, Bond again proved how valuable his kicking Is, with six fine goals that took him within two points of a century this season.
