Stormy Weather Abating

AUCKLAND, July 10.
Road, rail and air services which were disrupted by gales and driving rain at the start of the week-end improved today when the stormy weather abated.
Only State Highway No. 47, between Rangipo and the Chateau turn-off remained closed tonight The road, dosed on Friday afternoon because of muddy conditions on a stretch under reconstruction, is not expected to be opened until Tuesday.

Lake Taupo has risen about 7in in level since the rain started but tonight the level was reported to be steady. The lake is posing no flood danger and before the rain was at a low level.
Winds gusting to 54 knots were recorded at Auckland Airport on Saturday. In the city the Auckland weather office registered a gust of 42 knots. TV Affected Gales on Mount Egmont yesterday snapped the antenna of the television translator serving North Taranaki in three places and prevented technicians from making repairs.
