Coast Clubs Protest About Dates Clash

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH. The Reefton and Westport Jockey Clubs have protested to the Racing Conference about clashes of racing dates for the new season and the Greymouth Trotting Club has succeeded in two objections against dates which clashed with its Labour week-end meeting. Reefton seeks January 11 and 14 as its 1966-67 dates, but the Kumara Racing Club has also named January 14. The Greymouth District Committee has decided to suggest to the conference that the Reefton meeting be run a week later, on January 18 and 21. However, the Reefton club is not satisfied and has decided to protest to the conference In a bid to have its original application approved. The Westport Jockey Club is concerned that the North Canterbury Racing Club has applied for October 7, the day before the first day of the Westport club’s proposed two-day meeting on October 8 and 10. The conference suggested after date applications had been received that the Westport club race on October 1 and 3, but W'estport protests. The Racing Conference has advised the Egmont Racing i Club to apply for another date in place of October 19, on

which the first day of the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting wiiM be run. The Greymouth club’s second objection was lodged against the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s application for a meeting on October 18.

(N.Z. Press Association) BRISBANE. The trainer, M. Seal, is confident the New Zealander, Apa, will make history by being the first horse to take the Brisbane Cup—Doomben Cup double today. "He's a better horse now than when he took the Brisbane Cup,’’ Seal said last night. In the latest markets Apa Is equal third favourite with Flotsam at 8/1 behind Winfreux at 4/1 and Brandy Lad at 7/1. Seal said Apa had done everything required of him in cup preparation.
