University Delighted
Negotiations on the Colombo Plan hostel project have been going on for some years. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury (Professor N. C. Phillips) said the university was delighted to have confirmation of the | grant. The Colombo Plan hall [would probably be north of | the playing fields area with ian entrance from Maidstone road. It was hoped it would be part of a complex of residential halls, sharing common dining facilities, and that it would open in 1970. In accordance with university policy, Colombo Plan students would not occupy all places in the new hall. Some would be dispersed to other halls and an equivalent number of New Zealand students taken into the Colombo Plan hall to encourage interchange of ideas.
