"The Press” Special Service
AUCKLAND, July 7.
Group Captain C. M. Gibbs, of the Royal Air Force has been flying for 26 years but his mother, Mrs Lucy Gibbs, aged 84, of Papatoetoe, has only twice travelled by air. Last week she left Auckland Airport on her third flight. She flew to London where she was at Buckingham Palace to see her son receive the C.B.E. from the Queen. ,» When Group Captain Gibbs cabled his mother from London a week ago, Mrs Gibbs told him: “I’ll come if I can, but I’ll have to work hard to get ready.” One of the first things Mrs Gibbs did was to have a permanent wave.
“I’ll have to try hard to look as smart as my son will be,” she said.
