Higher Cost Of State Houses
The average tender price in State housing contracts for a three-bedroom house on a level site rose in the past financial year by £lOB in Auckland. £145 in Wellington, £165 in Christchurch, and £63 in Dunedin. The report of the housing division in the Ministry of Works Statement tabled in Parliament said that tendering for State housing contracts had been generally satisfactory over the past year, though the usual difficulties had been experienced in outlying areas. The increases in cost of labour and materials had resulted in the average tender price for a three-bedroomed house on a level site being as folows, 1964-65 figures in parentheses:— Auckland £3471 (£3363); Wellington £3589 (£3444); Christchurch £3217 (£3052) Dunedin £3375 (£3316).
