PROFIT RISE BY HEARDS
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 8. First group profit of Heards, Auckland chocolate and confectionery maker, for the year to March rose £639, or 2.7 per cent, to £24,221, compared with the profit earned by the parent company the previous year. N.Z. Licorice Company, Wellington, bought during the year, made a loss but the reorganisation necessary to put tins company on a profitable basis was completed and a healthier result should be possible in the current year, says the chairman, Mr L. H. Heard. Auckland sales were maintained at near the previous year’s record level, while sales of N.Z. Licorice rose 25 per cent. Profit was after providing £4660 more for depreciation at £23,765 and £4438 more for tax at £21,678. Ordinary dividend was maintained at 8 per cent and took £1320 more at £19,292. C. L.
