TAXI FIRM FINED
Breaches Of Award (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 27. A purported contract between a woman radio telephone operator and a firm of Taumarunui taxi proprietors was beyond doubt only a subterfuge, Mr H. Jenner Wily, S.M., has found in a reserved judgment in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court. Mr Wily fined Taumarunui Taxis a total of £3O, the amount claimed, for three breaches of the taxi-telephon-ists’ award.
He said the breaches were deliberate and he saw no reason to reduce the amount claimed. The defendants had failed to supply the plaintiff, the Auckland Clerical and Office Staff Employees’ Union, with a list of its workers, said Mr Wily. There was no doubt that the defendants ,as alleged employers, had failed to perform their duties in respect of keeping a wages book and paying the woman the wages required by the award.
