PRETTYPEEN HUNT CUP PROSPECT

"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. Prettypeen, the top-weight, and Prince Sylvan promise to dispute the Hunt Cup, the main event at the Maramarua Hunt Club’s meeting today. Each ran well, even if unsuccessfully, at the Auckland winter meeting.

Their opponents are mostly moderate, although Kingston is one with ability, Prettypeen will have to carry 10-13 three miles in going which is certain to be very heavy. Prettypeen Is small and her handicap is a rise of 111 b from the weight under which she finished second the last time out in the McGregor Grant Steeplechase. Ringlock won the McGregor Grant Steeplechase by a length from Pretty peen, with Prince Sylvan two lengths and a half away third. Prince Sylvan has 9-11 this time and so will meet Prettypeen lib better. Prince Sylvan won the Maramarua Hunt Cup in 1902. at siix years old. from four opponents. He did not race as an eight or nine-year-old so his recent return to form has been remarkable.

Kingston, an eight-year-old with 9-11, seems to be improving again and Tikipunga and Tomwatha look the best lightweights. Tikipunga and Tomwatha are also in the first race, the Young Memorial Steeplechase, and might well run in both. Bright Chief and Clarendon, the top-weights, look good prospects for the T.A.B. double. Bright Chief is in the first leg, the Ohinemuri Handicap, and Clarendon is in the Paeroa Handicap, an open sprint. The weather may clear, but after rain early in the week the ground wiM be wet and heavy. Selections:—
