WOMAN JUDGE
Two Death Sentences (N.Z P.A. Reuter —Copyright) ADELAIDE, June 27. Australia’s only woman judge, Justice Roma Flinders Mitchell, created legal history in the South Australia Supreme Court today by sentencing two men to death for murder. It was the first time in Australia that a woman judge had pronounced a death sentence, and the first time in South Australia that a jury panel which included women had convicted anyone for murder.
A jury of seven men and five women had earlier found Robert James Young and Lyle Owen Radan guilty of having murdered Keith Ross Pascoe, aged 27, last November. One of the women jurors wept after the foreman gave the verdict.
