Amberley W.D.F.F. Branch Now 35
From small beginnings, the Amberley branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers had grown in strength and had given its time in service to help the community, said Mrs O. A. Wells, the South Island Dominion vice-president and branch president, at the thirty-fifth anniversary luncheon of the branch. “We have extended our help beyond these shores to those less fortunate in other countries. Our affiliation with the Associated Country Wowomen of the World has brought about a greater understanding of the problems in other countries,” she said. About 80 guests attended the luncheon and afternoon tea. They included the first secretary, and a former president, Mrs A. George, and five other foundation members, Mesdames A. Hislop, C. Coleman, W. Briggs (a life member and a former president), M. Morris and R. Turnbull and two other life members, Mesdames E. Streeter and M. Retallick, also a former president. The foundation members lit the candles of a cake made by Mrs J. Elder and iced by Mrs J. Hislop. Mrs Wells and Miss J. Smith, the South Island Dominion councillor, blew out the candles and Mrs D. Archer, the North Canterbury provincial executive president, cut the cake. Greetings from Country Women’s Institutes, the Coun-
try Girls’ Clubs and the evening branch of W.D.F.F. were conveyed by Mrs T. Tucker, Miss A. Hislop and Mrs S. Dyer.
Floral School.— About 60 women attended a floral school, organised by the MidCanterbury Women’s Co-or-dinating Committee, in Ashburton recently. Mrs H. G. Petrie, of Woodend, demonstrated the arrangement and wiring of sprays and supervised the work of pupils.
