Kenya’s world record holder Kipchoge Keino will be favourite to win the 1968 Olympic 3000 and 5000 metres gold medals in Mexico City’s high altitude, according to a Canadian runner, B. Crothers. Crothere, the 800 metres Tokyo Olympic silver medallist clocked Imin 49.75ec to win a half-mile race run at an altitude of 6000 feet in Northern Kenya on Saturday. Crothere said: “Keino has got a wonderful country to train in and at this altitude he must be favourite for Mexico. Although I won my race I never felt such an effect on me. My legs were heavy and my chest burned.”
