Keino Beats Clarke (N.2. PA. -Reuter— Copyright > WEST BERLIN. Kipchoge Keino of Kenya came near to Ms world record time on Sunday wMle beating R. Clarke over 5000 metres in West Berlin. Keino clocked 13min 26.65ec —only 2.4 seconds outside the world record he set in New Zealand earlier this year. He sprinted to the tape to leave Clarke and the rest of the field. Clarke clocked 13:28.4. T. Cook set the early pace and led over the first two circuits. Then Clarke took over, increasing the speed of the race. As Clarke moved away from Cook, Keino and the West German H. Norpoth followed close behind. With 300 yards to go, Keino buret to the front. After the race, Keino said: "This was my first 5000 metres this year and I felt quite strong. I am pleased with my time and I feel maybe I can run 13:20 before the year is out I did not have any plans. I just ran. The pace sometimes was fast, sometimes slow.”
