PROUD OF RANGE
Deerstalkers’ Association
During the last 12 months the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers’ Association has seen its rifle range grow from a plan to a completed range that it could be proud of, said the president (Mr C. O. James) in his report to the annual meeting of the branch. Mr James said that the Deerstalkers’ Association had accepted an offer from the Handloaders’ Association to pay for the clubhouse at the range in return for the use of the range. This had cost nearly £lOO and thanks were given for their help and cooperation. The North Canterbury branch’s relationship with the New Zealand Forest Service in the Canterbury conservancy had improved vastly during the year. The private hunter scheme, in which members of the association were included in Forest Service hunting parties in Forest Service areas in the Lewis Pass, was now operating. A number of deerstalkers had taken advantage of this to make trips into previously inaccessible country, Mr James said. Officers elected were:
President, Mr C. O. James: vice-presidents, Messrs G. W. McQueen and T. R. Owens: immediate past president, Mr L. Perham: secretary, Mr F. P. Eade: treasurer, Mr R. Grimwood: executive, Messrs A. Burdon, D. George, N. Harris, B. Kelly, R. Lee, P. Mangan, J. Murphy. N. Pearce, W. Taylor, V. Thompson.
