APPRENTICE RIDES HAWERA DOUBLE
(New Zealand Press Association)
HAWERA.
The Stratford apprentice, R. Waller, scored a double success when he rode Monty’s Gold and BlJall to victory In the T.A.B. double on the final day of the Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting at Hawera on Saturday. Monty’s Gold was at good odds, paying £49 2s for a win, and with Bijali, returned a
double dividend of £236 6s 6d for £l.
After the Egmont Hack and Hunter's Steeplechase all the riders to weigh-in were a pound and a half light because of a scales fault. After an inquiry no action was taken as all the riders were the same amount underweight. The steeplechase provided a fine exhibition of jumping, marred by two spills, the first when Mark fell at the stand double with a round to run, and the second when Prejudice fell at the next fence.
A good attendance watched the racing in fine sunny weather, but the track was very heavy after the mid-week racing and further rain on Thursday and Friday.
