STUDIES FOR W.E.A.
Pottery Plan Delayed The possibility of establishing a pottery and wood sculpture studio workshop in Christchurch, under the auspices of the Workers’ Educational Association, will be further delayed. A meeting called to consider the idea decided to call another meeting to get wider representation. Fifteen potters and wood sculptors attended the meeting, which was convened by the president of the W.E.A. (the Rev. D. Jackson Inglis). He said the biggest obstacle to be overcome was finance. It would cost an estimated £5OO to get the project established.
A double garage had been offered, but the meeting considered that the cost of renovating it, installing a suitable kiln and at least four potters’ wheels, was too expensive. A suggestion that the Golden Kiwi Lottery Board and the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council be approached for funds will be considered by the W.E.A.; but no resolution was made.
