Sydenham On Top
SYDENHAM 12: K. Tucker a try, A Dunlop three penalty goals. NEW BRIGHTON 3: R. Dalton a try. In a match where the bounce of the ball played a big part In the final result, Sydenham beat New Brighton, 12-3. New Brighton's backs were given plenty of good ball early in the first half, thanks to the splendid jumping at No. 2 in the line outs by K. Tanner, who later became very much a marked man. But lack of pace in the New Brighton back-tine enabled the young Sydenham players to break down any threatening movements that developed. The Sydenham forwards were ably led by K. Tucker. P. K. Riddell was a good No. 8 and put in a lot of work in the tight: also covering well behind the Sydenham back-line. W. Dowell was the most pene-
trating back on the field, while D. L. Gallop, after one or two handling mishaps early in the first half, settled down and played soundly at full-back. I. H. Penrose played his usual hard, honest game for New Brighton, supported by K. Tanner and D. Dalton. R. Dalton, the replacement full-back, also played well. Referee: Mr A. G. Duckmanton.
