DESIGNS FOR COINS

Panel’s Views “Flouted” Six staff members of the Canterbury University School of Fine Arts have expressed amazement that the advisory panel on decimal coinage design has had its opinions “flouted” by the Cabinet They are Messrs W. A. Sutton and E. J. Doudney (senior lecturers) and R- de B. LovellSmith, R. Gopas. D. C. Peebles, and T. J. Taylor (lecturers). Their statement reads:—

“It is surprising to learn that in choosing the designs for our new coinage, the Cabinet have flouted the opinion of a well-balanced group of professionals. In deciding upon men of experience and insight to comprise the panel one would have thought that the Government was acting with some wisdom. To then ignore the recommendations of these men, chosen presumably because of their specialised knowledge of design, just seems incredible.”
