Songless Idol

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.PA.) LONDON. A teen-age idol of Manchester United soccer club's younger fans, George Best, has been banned from becoming a pop record star. Manchester United's manager, Mr M. Busby, has squashed plans for his first record because, he claims, the life of a pop singer and a footballer do not mix. According to his manager, Best “had every chance of becoming a star. He has a wonderful voice, a great feeling for pop music, a fine image . . . and a big fan following.'” But apparently Mr Busby fears that being a record star would mean personal appearances, late nights and absence for recording sessions.
