Swimming Coach
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Empire Games swimming coach, Mr M. Doidge, plans to rewrite the New Zealand record book with his games* swimmers before the national team leaves for
Jamaica on July 22. The new records Mr Doidge is after are for the men’s and women’s long and short course backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and medley events, and the men’s 4 x 110 yd medley relay. "The games swimmers have put in a lot of mileage in the Mount Eden pool in the last month and are in great condition,” Mr Doidge said yesterday. “They have been averaging 30 miles a week, which is big for swimmers.
“This week-end we will change over to what we call high quality training—faster swimming with longer recoveries between repetitions.”
