Customers For Gas
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON,
June 24.
Three gas undertakings—including the Auckland Gas Company—have signed a draft agreement to
purchase Kapuni natural gas and six others have indicated they are willing to enter into contracts on the broad terms outlined in the draft document.
The Minister of Mines (Mr Shand) said this in Parliament today. Mr Shand said none of the agreements could become effective until a satisfactory contract had been arranged with the oil consortium, Shell-8.P.-Todd, Ltd. . “Negotiations in this direction are proceeding,” he said. Mr Shand was replying to Mrs E. E. McMillan (Opp., Dunedin North). After further Opposition questioning, the Minister said the draft undertaking included provision for specified quantities of gas at specified prices across city boundaries. He said the prices had been fixed by a Government consultant and the gas companies.
