Running Battle

(N.Z Press Assn—Copyright) SAIGON, June 24.

Outnumbered American jungle fighters turned back a mortar attack early today in a running battle with North Vietnamese regulars that was swelling in size and intensity. Five United states battalions drove into the jungles in an effort to trap the enemy force and annihilate it. On Thursday, a North Vietnamese turn-coat officer directed United States artillery and air strikes against his former comrades and helped give the coup de grace to a shattered enemy battalion.
