Thalidomide Baby Killed
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) FRANKFURT, June 24. Two 35-year-old women will go on trial in Frankfurt today charged with the manslaughter of a deformed two-year-old thalidomide baby in September, 1963. i One is the child’s mother,
[Mrs Helga Siderow, and the [other her doctor and person-1 ial friend. Dr. Machthilde Pet-1 ersen, who is alleged to have, given the baby, Alexander) Siderow, a lethal injection. [ 1 The indictment says the two decided to kill the child out of mercy and because Mrs Siderow, mother of two other healthy sons, could no longer bear to look at it. [ The baby, said to have been crippled before birth, had ‘neither arms nor legs.
