Land Agents’ Hours
Sir,—The president of the Real Estate Institute in Christchurch is reported as stating that members were seriously considering stopping week-end advertising of properties for sale. The reason it seems, is that they do not wish to give service to the home-seekef at week-ends. My late husband was a member of the institute and expected to be on call at all times. Home owners entrust agents with their properties to sell, and for this service they pay commission of £lOO to £l5O on the average home. There are a number of properties for sale in Christchurch and naturally one needs time to look around. Many home seekers are in the younger group. Should they risk jobs and careers by trying to inspect and buy a home in their employers’ time? Property sellers should wake up. They pay the commission! Are they sure they are getting service now, without further curtailment?—Yours, etc., (Mrs) MARJORIE I. SHACKLE. June 22, 1966.
