INTEREST IN SHEARING
The South Island highcountry sub-sections of Federated Fanners meeting in Timaru this week did not proceed far with a proposal that the holding of additional courses for blade shearers should be investigated. The secretary, Mr D. R. Rowe, indicated that they could not get enough people to fill a course planned to be held at Rakaia next month. “I do not think that it is much good pressing this when we have got a course that is not full,” commented the chairman, Mr P. C. Ensor. It was decided, however, that the high country committee should keep the position under review with the idea of seeing how shearers could 'be attracted into courses.
Mr M. V. Prouting, of Mesopotamia station, suggested that shed hands were probably the most likely people to become shearers and runholders might be able to make some contribution by encouraging shed hands to take these courses.
