Timber Sales In Pacific
(N.Z. Press Association)
ROTORUA, June 23.
New Zealand-grown Douglas fir is competing successfully against North American Oregon in the competitive timber market of the South Pacific, for many years a traditional outlet for North American timber.
A sales drive is being made in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and New Caledonia by the Waipa State mill, Rotorua. The mill’s sales manager, Mr G. A. Robinson, has just returned from a successful three-week selling tour of South Pacific markets, and two other salesmen are still away.
The mill manager, Mr A. W. Oakley, said today that Waipa was now selling 2.5 million board feet of timber a year to Pacific markets.
