ROUGH PLAY
‘Flurries Minor’ (From Qur Own Reporter? WELLINGTON. The New Zealand Rugby Union would not countenance dirty or foul play and would support all endeavours to prevent its appearance in New Zealand Rugby, said the chairman of the union’s council (Mr T. C. Morrison) when asked to comment on press reports of excessive rough play in the four matches played by the British Lions. “I have seen two games— Southland and New Zealand Universities,” he said. “In both games some forwards on both sides have been irritable with each other and this has led to a few flurries which referees have stopped promptly. “These flurries have been minor and, in the main, the games have been played in a good, robust and sporting spirit." The manager of the Lions (Mr D. J. O’Brien), asked to comment on Mr Morrison’s remarks, said: “I endorse them, lit is a fair picture of the 'situation.”
