PAGODA TAKEN

Buddhists Subdued

IN Z Press Assn —Copyright) SAIGON. June 23. A tough Vietnamese ranger battalion stormed through the arched gate of the Vien Hoa Dao pagoda today and subdued the final stronghold of Buddhist rebellion which has plagued South Vietnam for three months. “You will now do what I tell you.” a ranger officer screamed at the cowed monks through a hand-held loud speaker. His men, backed by a hundred or more plain-clothes police, rushed into the Vien Hoa Dao pagoda, seat of the Buddhist Institute, just after dawn as about 400 monks and their followers were eating their morning rice. As far as could be determined. not a shot was fired.
