Line To Stop Service

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 22. The Northern Steam Ship Company will end its coastal freight service between Mt. Maunganui and South Island ports after the trip by the Awanui in mid-July. The manager, Mr A. G. Hardy, said that increasing costs in handling cargo and the inevitable delays in east coast North Island ports had made the service uneconomical. The Awanui will call shortly in Auckland for survey and then load a final cargo at Dunedin, Timaru and Lyttelton for Mt. Maunganui.
